About Us
KB's Standard Schnauzers, located in San Diego, California, is our home. Our puppies, when we have them, are raised in our home with the family-never in a kennel.
I acquired my first Standard Schnauzer in 1971, or rather I was selected by Wuffi-T von Robin when I went to buy a Mini! Much to my surprise, they were Standards. Once you are owned by a Standard, you are hooked! We have been owned by the breed ever since.
Fourteen years passed, as did Wuffi, and Gordon wanted me to have another dog. We started our search and got our Obedience girl, KB's Schoene Maedel CD, and then our first show dog, CH Pepper Tree Sensation, CD, aka Punker. Our current Pepper and Salt boy, CH Stahlkrieger Korrpret Dream, aka JR (Junior) is the son of my beautiful CH Stahlkrieger's KBS Sonofablitz, who was the grandson of Punker. It is his head shot you see on our home page.
We also have generations of Blacks. When Punker was just a baby, we attended our first Standard Schnauzer Club of America Specialty and saw our first black standard-it was love at first sight. We knew in time, we would add black to our Schnauzer family. We were lucky enough to adopt our first black baby (Champion Stahlkriegers Black Lace). We now have Heather (CH Stahlkriegers Heather von KBS), her daughter Jade (CH KB's Black Jade), and granddaughter, Scarlet (CH KB's Midnight Haagen-Dazs). Heather is the mother of the world famous Champion Stahlkriegers Johnny Cash.
The SS is an active, high energy dog and not for everyone. They are beautiful to watch, with grace and fluid movement, but do require grooming and training. They can be clowns, and never a day goes by that they don't provide a laugh or two. Given an inch, they will take a mile. Being a strong breed and very athletic, they like a job, whether it be agility, obedience, herding, tracking, or conformation shows. Most Thursday evenings find us either training or working the dogs with the Obedience Club of San Diego County, Inc. I am also a member of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and SSCA (Standard Schnauzer Club of America) and active with the SSCSC (Standard Schnauzer Club of Southern California, Inc.).
We don't breed often, but when we do, we breed for good health and temperament. Coats and substance are also considered. Our breeding program is to maintain the great qualities of the breed (see the Breed Standards of the SSCA). We abide by the Code of Ethics of the SSCA, SSCSC, and AKC. We place our puppies in companion or show homes. The companion, or pet puppy, has a limited registration.
